I used to think all the good stuff was on VHS, but a box of MiniDV tapes proved me wrong
I picked up a box of 20 unlabeled MiniDV tapes for five bucks at a yard sale in Bellingham last month. I almost passed on them because my old VCR is easier to deal with. I finally got a player and the third tape was a full, uncut recording of a local high school's 1998 production of 'Our Town'. It's got all the backstage chaos and a weird, ten minute segment after the curtain call of the cast just staring at the empty seats. The quality is way sharper than any VHS I've ever transferred. Has anyone else had a MiniDV haul that surprised them?

That's a wild find, the cast just staring at the empty theater is super haunting. Did you notice if the tape had any timecode breaks or weird glitches? My old MiniDV camcorder used to eat tapes and the digital dropout could be brutal. The sharpness is no joke though, it's like watching something from five years ago, not twenty-five.
