Vent: My cousin said 'old tapes are just junk' and it really got to me

We were cleaning out his garage in Fresno and I pulled a sealed box of VHS tapes from the 90s out of a corner. He just waved his hand and said 'that's just junk, toss it.' I took them home anyway, and on the third tape, after some home movie stuff, there's this incredible, clear shot of a meteor breaking up over the city skyline. It's not online anywhere. It made me so mad he was ready to just throw it all in a dumpster without a second look. That attitude is how cool history gets lost forever. It's not junk until you know what's on it. How do you even start to explain that to people who don't get it? What's the best thing you've saved from being tossed out?

Just realized the tapes could have old family stories on them. @the_hugo, what if someone's whole history was on there and they just threw it out?
