I used to fight with the riser sleeves on our greensand molds for hours
For years, we'd just pack sand around the wooden patterns and hope they came out clean. Half the time they'd tear, and we'd have to patch the mold. About six months back, I started giving the pattern a light dusting with talc powder before we rammed up. Not a lot, just a quick puff. The difference is night and day. The sleeves pull straight out now, no damage, and we save maybe 15 minutes per mold on rework. Has anyone else tried a different release agent that works better than basic talc?

Graphite spray works even better for our iron castings, pulls like a dream.

What brand of spray are you using? We tried a couple that left a greasy film. Found one that dries to a nice, dry powder and it made a huge difference.
