Rant: My friend said my ink mix was too safe and boring

I was really proud of this deep blue I made from 60% Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai and 40% a basic black, thinking it was a perfect professional shade. My friend in the group, Sarah, looked at my swatch card and just said 'It's fine, but it's just another blue. Where's the risk?' That comment stuck with me for a week. I've started adding a single drop of a sheening red, like Diamine Majestic Blue's leftover residue, to my 30ml batches to try and get a subtle halo effect. Has anyone else pushed past making 'safe' inks after some blunt feedback?

Safe inks are underrated tbh.

Wait, safe inks are underrated? @amy692 have you seen the price of fixing a printer after someone uses the wrong stuff? That's a whole new level of expensive, lol.

Oh man I gotta push back hard on this one. There's nothing wrong with a safe ink mix if it does what you need it to do. Not every ink has to be this wild experiment that looks like a unicorn sneezed on the page. Your deep blue sounds like it was clean and reliable and perfect for actual writing not just showing off. Sarah's comment says more about her needing drama than about your mix being boring. Sometimes the best inks are the ones you can use every day without thinking about it. Professional shades exist for a reason they work. Don't let one person make you second guess a solid formula.
