Warning: I thought those cheap fitness trackers were a total scam
My friend gave me a basic 'FitBand 2' for my birthday last month and I laughed, thinking it was junk. I wore it for a week just to be nice, but then I noticed it was actually pretty accurate on my morning walks around the park. The step count matched my phone's, and the sleep tracking showed the same bad nights I already knew about. It made me realize you don't always need the $300 version of something. Has anyone else had a cheap gadget surprise them like this?

Totally! My knockoff tracker from the mall kiosk is still going strong after two years. Sometimes the cheap stuff just works.

That "cheap stuff just works" line is a gamble though. I've seen those knockoffs fail at the worst times, like dying mid-hike when you really need it. They often have bad batteries or weak signals compared to the real deal. Saving a few bucks isn't worth it if you can't trust the thing when it counts.

Man, I gotta push back on that a little. For every story about a knockoff failing, there's someone like Fiona who got lucky. The real deal stuff fails too, it's just less talked about because it costs more so people feel dumb complaining. Sometimes that price difference is just for the brand name and fancy packaging, not better parts. If you're on a tight budget, rolling the dice on the cheaper option can make sense.
