I was convinced direct sowing my zinnias was better than starting them indoors, but a side-by-side test in my Denver garden this spring proved me wrong.
The indoor-started plants, grown under a $40 shop light for 4 weeks, bloomed a full month earlier and were much bushier than the direct-sown ones, which really surprised me. Has anyone else had a specific seed that performed way better with an indoor start than you expected?

Guess my garden's not a fan of shortcuts.

Oh man, that's so true! I've found that with so many things, like baking or fixing stuff around the house. Try to skip a step or use a faster way, and it always backfires. Nature and old houses just don't respect a rush job.

Didn't I read somewhere that plants actually grow better when you take your time?
