My sister changed my mind about saving seeds from store bought veggies

I was talking to my sister over the phone last weekend, and she mentioned she saved seeds from a bell pepper she got at the grocery store and grew a whole new plant. I always thought that was a waste of time because those seeds are from hybrid plants and won't grow true. But she said, 'Yeah, but sometimes you get a fun surprise, and it's free.' She's been doing it for a couple years now and has gotten some really weird and cool peppers from it. I tried it myself with a tomato from the market about three months ago, and the seedlings are looking strong, even if I don't know what I'll get. It made me realize saving seeds isn't just about getting the exact same plant, it's about the experiment. Has anyone else had a good result from a grocery store seed?

My buddy grew a monster cucumber from a store seed, so you never know.

Didn't some seed companies actually use the same suppliers as grocery stores?

I always bought the fancy seed packets until I saw a video from a farm in Florida. They showed their bulk seed bins, and the labels matched the generic brands at my local hardware store. It was literally the same stuff, just different packaging. Now I check for the supplier code on the back of the envelope. A lot of them come from the same few big companies. Saved a ton of money on my basil and tomatoes last year.
