Just realized why my car's fuel efficiency dropped in cold weather
I was worried my car had a problem when gas mileage got worse this winter. Reading about air density and engine thermodynamics explained it's normal, so I stopped wasting money on unnecessary checks. What other everyday physics facts have saved you from a panic?

In Denver, I blamed the cold for my car battery dying every morning. Felt like an idiot when I found the dome light had been on for a week.

Hold on, blaming everything on cold weather is how you miss real issues. My neighbor's car had a clogged fuel filter that acted worse in the cold, and he drove on it for months burning extra gas. Assuming it's just physics means you might ignore stuff like bad tire pressure or a dying battery that actually need fixing. Could end up costing way more later.

Noticed this same thing happens with people assuming their phone battery is just old when it dies fast, ignoring that a rogue app might be killing it. It's a bigger habit of chalking stuff up to the easy answer instead of doing a quick, proper check. Seen it with tools at work too, where everyone blames the cold for a machine acting up, but half the time it's a loose connection or needs a simple clean. You gotta learn the common reasons without letting them blind you to the simple fixes right in front of you.
