Took me 3 weeks to realize the basement light was on a switch behind the water heater

Moved into a place in Columbus last month and the basement was just pitch black. I bought a $25 work light and used it for 2 weeks before my buddy came over and started laughing, pointed behind the water heater, and there was this dusty old toggle switch. Landlord never mentioned it, lease said nothing, and the walkthrough was done at noon so we never even tried the light. Has anyone else found mystery switches or fixtures that the landlord just forgot existed?
