Landlord tried to charge me for 'normal wear' on a 15 year old carpet, looked up the law and it saved me $600

Moved out of my old place in Cleveland last month and the landlord tried to hit me with a $600 carpet replacement bill. Claimed 'excessive matting' even though the carpet was from 2009 and I only lived there 2 years. Looked up Ohio landlord tenant law online and found that carpets usually have a 5-7 year useful life, so replacement cost should be prorated or totally on them after that. Sent him a screenshot of the statute and he dropped the charge same day. Has anyone else fought a wear and tear charge with state housing codes and won?
