My 1970s toggle bolt finally gave out last Tuesday
I've been patching the same plaster hole in my dining room for 8 years with a toggle bolt that survived two moves and three touch-up paints, but it snapped clean off when I hung a small mirror this week. Landlord's maintenance guy came by, looked at the anchor, and said they stopped making that style in the 80s, then charged me $40 for a new drywall anchor kit and patch job. Has anyone else used those old claw-style anchors on plaster and found them better than the modern plastic ones, or is it just nostalgia talking?
Man, those old claw anchors were the real deal. I had a few in my last apartment and they held like nobody's business. The plastic ones they sell now feel like toys in comparison. Wouldn't call it nostalgia, more like they just don't make stuff to last anymore. $40 for a patch job stings but at least it's fixed.
