Appreciation post: My rainwater harvesting system finally handled a heavy downpour without overflowing
Watching it collect every drop for my garden this season feels like a huge personal victory, lol.

Handling a downpour is one thing, but these systems often create more problems than they solve. Without PROPER care, they become mosquito nurseries and can even damage your property. It's a lot of work for questionable benefit.

Ever hear about my friend's drainage mess? He installed a system that pooled water near his house, attracting mosquitos and slowly eroding the soil. Had to redo the whole thing after it started cracking his walkway.

Mosquito nurseries, ugh. My attempt at "creative drainage" just funneled water straight into my own basement once (a masterclass in what not to do, really).
