Vent: Bagged potting mix is a scam for urban gardeners.

I've been growing vegetables in recycled soil from my compost for years with better results than any store-bought mix. Most branded potting soils are just peat and perlite with a markup, and they're terrible for the environment. Why are we still buying into this garbage when we can make our own?

Ugh, nailed it. Heard a segment on NPR about the peat moss industry. They're strip-mining crucial carbon sinks, those bogs, and it's basically irreversible. Paying a premium to destroy the environment for mediocre soil. Honestly pisses me off.

Why do we still purchase these mixes when homemade compost yields such robust plants? My own vegetables have never been healthier since I abandoned bagged soil entirely.

Ever tried side-by-side comparison, because my compost plants dwarf the bagged-soil ones every time?
