A beta tester told me my AI chatbot was too polite - and they were right

Last month someone from a user testing group said my travel planning bot sounded like a hotel concierge who memorized every Wikipedia page. They wanted it to push back when they asked for a 3 star hotel in Manhattan for under 50 bucks. I redid the personality module to add some friendly sarcasm and directness, and the engagement stats jumped 40% after the change. Has anyone else here gotten feedback that made you rethink how your AI interacts with people?

A slightly sarcastic bot that knows when to call people out is actually closer to how real conversations work. Real travel agents don't just say "yes sir" when someone wants the impossible, they laugh and say "good luck with that." The interesting bit is that people actually trust the bot more when it shows some personality and pushes back, because it feels like someone who actually knows their stuff rather than a corporate yes-man. Your mileage may vary on how far you take the sarcasm though. A little bit goes a long way before it starts feeling rude.

Actually, real travel agents usually just tell you the cheapest option and let you decide, not laugh at your budget.
