Hit 500 AI generated mockups last month without even trying

I've been using AI design tools for client presentations and I just checked my history - 500 mockups in 6 months. That's wild because I used to maybe make 30 mockups manually in that same timeframe. The time save is huge, like an extra 2 hours per project I can use for actual problem solving instead of clicking around. Mostly I'm using the tool to rough out 10-15 layouts fast so the client can pick a direction. Has anyone else seen their output numbers jump like that after getting into AI tools?

Okay but is quantity really the win here? I think you might be confusing speed with quality. A client can pick a direction from 15 rough layouts sure but you're basically outsourcing the creative thinking to a pattern-matching machine. I've seen designers lose that instinct for what actually works because they trust the AI too much. Those 30 manual mockups you used to make probably had more thought behind each one, like specific spacing choices or color psychology you deliberately chose. Now you're just generating noise and letting someone else filter it. It feels more like busywork than problem solving to me.

Oh man, I gotta push back hard on this one! You're acting like using a tool to generate options somehow makes the designer dumber, but that's like saying using a calculator erases your math skills. We're still the ones curating, refining, and applying that creative judgment, we're just getting to the good stuff faster these days. Those 30 manual mockups took ages and half of them were probably just variations that didn't teach you anything new, but with AI you can explore way more wild ideas you wouldn't have thought to try at all. Clients love having real choices, and honestly, getting back to the actual problem solving sooner instead of spending hours on pixel shifting is a win in my book.
