Spent $50 on an AI voice generator and the robotic sound is creeping me out

I needed a voiceover for a local business ad in Detroit last month and tried one of those AI voice tools, but the cadence was so off it sounded like a robot reading a ransom note. Has anyone found a free or cheap alternative that actually sounds human?

Fifty bucks on an AI voice thing? That's crazy, I feel your pain though. I messed with one of those free ones from some website a few months back for a little project and the way it said "uh" in the middle of sentences was just unsettling. Like someone put a recording of a real person through a blender. Have you tried just recording it yourself on your phone and running it through a noise filter app? Most phones have a basic one built in now. Could save you the money and the creepy robot voice.

I read somewhere that AI voices are trained on real people's speech patterns, which explains the weird "uh" thing.

Honestly kinda feels like you're overthinking this whole thing.
