Hot take: frozen fries in the air fryer are way better than fresh potato wedges

I tried making fresh potato wedges from scratch last week, seasoning them and everything. They took 25 minutes and came out kind of soggy. Then I just threw in a bag of store-bought frozen fries for 15 minutes. They were super crispy and way easier. Is it just me, or does the air fryer work better with frozen stuff sometimes?

You're onto something here. Frozen fries are pre-cooked and dried out for storage, so they crisp up fast. Fresh potatoes are full of water, which turns to steam and makes things soggy. It's like how boxed cake mix often beats a from-scratch recipe (the dry ingredients are perfectly measured and coated). Sometimes the factory process just sets things up for success in our home gadgets.

Oh man, that cake mix comparison hits home. My grandma used to swear by her scratch carrot cake, but one time she was in a rush and used a box mix. We all pretended not to notice it was actually better, just to spare her feelings. The texture was perfect every single time.

Gotta agree with you here, @wade_hall. It's wild how something that comes out of a bag can beat the homemade version so easily. I've had the exact same experience with fries and it almost feels like cheating but the results speak for themselves.
