I had a talk with my neighbor about air fryer breading and it changed everything

So I was out on my porch last Saturday and my neighbor Mike saw me cleaning my air fryer basket. He's this older guy who cooks everything from scratch. He asked what I was making and I said chicken tenders with panko. He laughed and said my problem was I was using dry breading. He said I needed to wet the breadcrumbs with a little oil and seasoning first, let them sit for 5 minutes before coating the chicken. I thought he was nuts but I tried it last night. The crust came out way crispier and actually stuck to the meat instead of falling off into the basket. Blew my mind because I've been doing it wrong for like 2 years. Has anyone else tried wetting their breading first or is that just a weird old guy trick?
