I used to think air fryer chicken wings were just okay

My brother-in-law in Boise told me he always puts a little cornstarch in his rub, like a tablespoon for two pounds of wings. I tried it last night and wow, the skin got so much crispier than my usual way. It was a total game changer for texture. Anyone have other little tricks like that for getting things extra crispy?

Wait, your brother-in-law lives in Boise? I mean, that's so random, what are the odds? The cornstarch tip is genius though.

Is it just me or does every "hack" basically turn into a mess for normal people to clean up? I tried the cornstarch thing once and ended up with a coating that looked like I'd dipped my wings in baby powder. My kitchen was a total white dust cloud, and I'm pretty sure my smoke detector thought it was a snow day. Honestly, I'm with Andrew on the hot oven method, even if it means my wings aren't quite as crispy as the pros. But hey, at least I don't have to explain to my brother-in-law why my chicken tastes like a diaper change.

Honestly, cornstarch is such a messy cheat. It just dries the skin out and leaves a weird powdery feel. A really hot oven and patting the wings dry works way better without the gimmick.
