My air fryer basket latch popped loose mid-batch and dumped 2 lbs of wings on the counter
This happened last Wednesday right around 7pm while I was making a big batch of wings for my brother and his kids who stopped by unannounced. I had loaded the basket pretty full, maybe 2 lbs of drumettes, and when I pulled it out at the 12 minute mark to shake them, the whole latch just gave out and the basket tipped forward. Half the wings hit the counter and my foot, and there was grease everywhere including a nice splatter pattern on the cabinet doors. I wiped everything down, tossed the floor wings, and finished the rest in two smaller batches so the basket wasn't so heavy. Turns out I'd been overloading it for months, packing it right up to the line, and the latch had slowly been bending out of shape the whole time. Now I keep it to a single layer and the latch works fine, but I'm wondering if I should just replace the basket before it fails again. Has anyone had a basket latch go bad like this, and did you fix it or just get a new fryer?
