My first air fryer disaster involved frozen fries and a smoke alarm in my old apartment
It was about two years ago in my kitchen in Columbus. I was trying to cook a whole bag of frozen fries in my new air fryer, just dumping them in like the oven. After about eight minutes, the smoke alarm went off because I overloaded the basket and the hot air couldn't move. I had to wave a towel at the alarm and pull out a bunch of soggy, half-burned fries. Now I always do two smaller batches, which takes a bit longer but works every time. Has anyone else found a good trick for cooking a full bag of frozen fries without the smoke show?

Oh man, the classic air fryer smoke alarm initiation. Congrats on joining the club! My trick is shaking the basket like I'm mad at it halfway through, but honestly, two batches is the only real answer.

Shake it like you mean it, @marymorgan. I've found a quick spritz of oil helps cut down on the dust that really sets off the alarm. Sometimes you just have to accept the two-batch life for peace and quiet.
