Almost got banned from a con because of one bad cosplay piece

I was at Anime Expo in LA last summer and a guy at the prop check table flagged my foam sword because the edge felt too sharp, even though I sanded it down for like two hours. Turns out he'd seen someone get cut by a similar prop earlier that day and the con staff went into full lockdown mode on weapons checks. Has anyone else had a prop that passed inspection at one event but got rejected somewhere else without warning?

Oh man, that is SO frustrating. I had a similar thing happen at a smaller local con last fall. I made a full Daenerys costume and spent WEEKS on this dragon egg prop, hot glued a bunch of sparkly beads and stuff on it. Security took one look at it and said the tip was "too pointy" and I had to leave it at the coat check. It wasn't even SHARP, it was just a little pointed at the top because of the way I shaped the clay. Meanwhile, another cosplayer walked right in with a MASSIVE metal staff that looked WAY more dangerous. It really feels like they just pick and choose who to hassle sometimes.

Wait, so the blunt clay egg is a weapon but the metal staff is fine? That makes total sense if you're running security based on vibes instead of actual rules. I swear some of these con security guys just pick a target based on how tired they look or something. Guess I'll start showing up with a cardboard sword and hope they think it's "too flimsy" to be a threat.
