Curated a watchlist of 47 anime this season and 42 of them were sequels or reboots

After scrolling through the new releases on Crunchyroll last Monday, I counted 42 sequels out of 47 total series and felt like the industry just ran out of fresh ideas, has anyone else noticed this drop in original stories?

Yeah that "42 sequels out of 47" stat really hit me hard. I remember when seasons would have maybe half that many follow-ups and the rest were brand new shows or wild experiments. Now it feels like every studio just plays it safe with the same franchises over and over. It's not just Crunchyroll either, I checked HIDIVE and Funimation and it's the same pattern everywhere. The worst part is when they announce a sequel to a show that barely had an ending two years ago, like did we really need another season of that already? I get that sequels are guaranteed money but it's killing the variety that made anime interesting in the first place.

That "42 sequels out of 47" stat is honestly depressing when you sit with it. I used to get excited for new season announcements but now I just brace myself for another sequel to something that didn't need one. Feels like the industry is stuck in a loop where nobody wants to take a chance on anything fresh.
