I watched the first 10 episodes of a 'must watch' anime and felt nothing
Everyone online says 'Natsume's Book of Friends' is a masterpiece that makes you cry... I gave it a real shot, two full evenings. The main character is just too quiet for me, and the stories felt really slow. I didn't feel sad or happy, just kind of bored waiting for something to click. Maybe slice-of-life with spirits just isn't my thing, even though I usually like quiet shows. Has anyone else tried a super popular show and just couldn't get into it at all?

Yeah I see that a lot... people talk about a show like it's this life changing thing and you just feel left out. Sometimes the hype sets up expectations that ruin the actual experience.

Wasn't there a whole article about how hype can spoil a show before you even watch it? I read something that said when everyone calls something perfect, your brain starts looking for all the tiny flaws instead of just going along with the story. It makes you watch like a critic, not a fan. You end up fighting the hype in your head the whole time. That pressure to have the same big feeling as everyone else just kills the chance to actually enjoy it.
