My roommate said my anime watch list was just 'emotional comfort food' and it kinda stuck with me

We were talking about what we'd been watching, and I listed off like 5 slice-of-life shows from the last 3 months. He just nodded and said, 'So, all emotional comfort food, huh?' It hit different because I'd never thought of it that way. I realized I'd been avoiding anything with real stakes or drama since last winter. It made me question if I was just using anime to avoid feeling other stuff. Has anyone else had a watch list that felt too safe?

Honestly see that everywhere now, not just with shows. People only listening to the same three chill playlists, only rewatching old sitcoms. Tbh it feels like we're all just trying to turn down the volume on the world sometimes. Maybe your watch list is just part of that.

That's a really good point about turning down the volume. Makes you wonder if it's also about avoiding surprise endings we can't handle anymore. Like, real life has enough shocking plot twists (bad news, sudden bills). Maybe rewatching a show where you know the hero wins is a tiny way to feel in control for 22 minutes. It's not just comfort food, it's a predictable win in an unpredictable week.
