Rant: How I finally got over my dub vs sub hangup

I was at Anime Weekend Atlanta back in October, sitting in the Crunchyroll panel, and this guy on stage said something that just clicked. He pointed out that dubs help people who can't read subtitles fast or have vision issues still enjoy the shows. I'd been one of those sub-only snobs for like 5 years, but hearing that made me realize I was gatekeeping something stupid. Now I watch whatever version fits my mood, has anyone else had a random moment that flipped their opinion on this?

It also helps preserve the original voice acting intent since some directors make weird choices with the subtitles that don't match what the characters actually say. Once I noticed that disconnect in a few shows it made me appreciate dubs more for at least keeping the emotional tone consistent. Have you ever caught a sub translation that felt off from the performance?

Yeah @linda_clark but that's more a translation thing than a dub thing really.
