The 2016 vs 2025 Crunchyroll interface debate - did we actually lose features or just get used to worse stuff?

I swear back in 2016 the comments section had actual community discussions and now it's just a sea of emoji spam and one-liners, but some folks say the old layout was clunky and slow, so which side is right - did the platform improve or did we trade substance for shiny garbage?

Yeah the old site was basically a janky forum with a video player tacked on, but at least people actually talked about the show instead of just yelling "Kawaii!" and dipping out. Now we get a sleek interface that loads fast but feels like scrolling through a corporate Twitter feed full of bots. Trading slow but genuine discussion for fast and shallow nonsense is not exactly a win in my book.

I remember that 2016 layout pretty well, and you're right that the comments section felt more like a real forum back then. People actually typed out full thoughts about the episode instead of just dropping a crying laughing face or saying "first." But I also recall having to wait forever for pages to load and the video player crashing on me constantly. My question is: do you think the old community feeling was because the platform itself was better designed for discussion, or was it just that the fanbase was smaller and more niche back then? Because I feel like as anime got more mainstream, the crowd changed more than the interface did.
