Used to skip filler arcs like the plague, now I watch them for worldbuilding details

For years I would check a site's filler list and skip everything that wasn't manga canon. I thought it was a waste of time, especially on long running shows. Last year I decided to watch the Bleach bount arc on a whim during a slow week. Caught a small reference in a later canon fight that paid off from that filler. Now I at least give filler a 3 episode chance before I drop it. Anybody else find hidden gems in the stuff everyone tells you to skip?

Yeah, that's how I look at it too. I gave the G8 arc in One Piece a shot and ended up liking some of those marines more than a few canon characters. Just takes one decent payoff to make the slow parts worth sitting through.
