Was given a box of 30 anime DVDs for $20 from a garage sale, all bootlegs with terrible quality
The subtitles were so garbled on those copies that I could barely follow the story, and the video froze every 10 minutes has anyone else run into fake DVDs like this at yard sales

It's always a gamble at yard sales. I've picked up a few bootleg movies over the years and they rarely work right, seems like every other house has a stack of them now.

This junk isn't just about bad DVDs though, it's part of a bigger pattern where people think they're getting a deal but really they're just buying someone else's mistake. Garage sale culture has gotten weird where folks will try to turn their bad buying choices into your problem for a quick buck. I've seen it with fake game cartridges and even knockoff tools at these places too. The line between someone cleaning out their basement and someone running a tiny bootleg operation has gotten real blurry lately. Might be worth sticking to estate sales run by actual families instead of the "I bought a pallet of junk from an auction" type sales.
