Had a guy in Portland show me his tarp method for big pines and now I do it different
Was helping a buddy with a 80 foot ponderosa last Thursday. He goes up first and just wraps this big tarp around the branches as he cuts them. Kept all the debris off the house and lawn below. No cleanup after. I always just let stuff fall and raked it up after. Felt like an idiot. Anyone else use tarps for residential jobs or is that just extra hassle?

Hold up, are you sure that tarp is rated for branch punctures? I've seen guys get a tarp snagged on a stub and it rips halfway down. Now you got a bigger mess and a pissed off homeowner. Plus that wind catches it and you're fighting the tree and the plastic at the same time. Seems like one more thing to go wrong on a sketchy climb.

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you here. I've been using tarps on removals for years and never had one rip on a stub. You gotta set it up right, not just throw it over the tree and hope. If you take two seconds to clear any sharp nubs where the tarp sits and weight it with a couple of branches at the edges, it stays put. The wind thing is real if you're using a cheap flimsy tarp, but a 14-mil one with reinforced corners isn't catching that much air. I'd rather deal with a little plastic wrestling than clean up a thousand tiny twigs off some lady's rose bushes.
