I thought those tree injection systems were just a gimmick for a quick buck

Had a client in Springfield with a big oak showing early signs of oak wilt, and they really wanted to try a treatment. I was ready to just do a soil drench, but they pushed for a trunk injection kit called 'Arbor-jet'. Used it exactly like the guide said, making the small holes and sealing them. Checked the tree again this spring, and the spread is completely stopped, with healthy new growth. Has anyone else had a good result with these, or did I just get lucky?

Actually had a great result with a similar kit for some pines with beetles. The key was getting the mix right and not overdoing the injection spots. It bought those trees a few more years for sure.

We had a similar thing with a row of ash trees a few years back. The city was going to cut them all down because of the borers. My neighbor bought a different brand of injector kit online, the kind you screw into the trunk. We treated three trees as a test. Two of them are still standing and look pretty good, but the third one didn't make it. It seems like timing and doing it right matters a lot.

That's tough about that third tree, @henry101. We had a similar try with some oaks and a different pest, the kind that bores into the bark. My dad tried a store bought injector, the one with the little plastic capsules, and we lost two out of four. The ones that lived got treated in early spring, right when the leaves were just starting to come out, but the ones that died we did too late in the summer. Makes you realize how small the window is to get it right, you know?
