Pro tip: Mark your ropes before you climb, not after

Spent 45 minutes untangling a climbing line last week because I didn't mark the ends before hoisting it up a red oak. Now I tape both ends with bright orange flagging tape before I even leave the truck. Anyone else waste time on this? lol

Disagree a bit, that tape usually stays on fine if you wrap it tight enough around the rope.

Seems like a good system, but I actually go the other way on this a lot of the time. Marking before you throw can get the tape ripped off on the bark or branches if you're feeding through a crotch, and then you're back to square one with unmarked ends. I usually tape after the rope is set in the tree and I'm about to tie my hitch. For a climbing line though, I can see why you'd want the ends marked right away since you don't want to be sorting out a tangle 40 feet up. Your red oak situation sounds miserable, that thick bark can really eat a rope.
