Showerthought: wrote off stump grinding the slow way until a job in Fort Collins last month
Three years I've been renting the big walk-behind grinder for every removal because I figured hand cutting a stump was a waste of a Saturday. Last month a guy in Fort Collins with a 14 inch boxelder in his front yard asked me to keep it under $200, so I brought the 2 stroke and a fresh chain instead of paying $180 for the rental plus fuel. Took me 40 minutes to get 6 inches below grade with a plunge cut and a pry bar, and the roots popped out cleaner than the machine ever left them. Now I'm sitting here wondering how much I've been handing over to the rental yard for no reason. Any of you still run a big grinder on everything, or do you switch to the saw for smaller stuff?
