That old timer's ladder trick in Austin saved my back today
Had a 70 year old climber named Gus show me how he sets his extension ladder on uneven ground using just a scrap 2x4 and a hinge pin. No fancy levelers, just wedged it under one foot and it sat rock solid. We were working a big live oak off Lamar Blvd and I spent 20 minutes fighting the grade before he walked over and fixed it in under a minute. Has anyone else picked up a simple rig trick from an older hand that you use every job now?
