That time I talked a lady out of topping her 80-year-old oak
Last Tuesday I got called to a house in Maplewood for a quote, and the owner swore up and down her big red oak needed to come down to 15 feet. I spent 20 minutes explaining why topping is bad and showed her how a proper crown reduction would save the tree. She finally agreed, and I left feeling like I actually saved something for once. Anyone else spend more time talking people out of bad ideas than actual cutting?

Heard a story once about a guy who topped his grandmothers old maple and it just never recovered. Died like 3 years later. You probably saved that oak for another 50 years.

Three years? That's brutal. Poor tree never stood a chance, @flores.tessa.
