Thought air spading was just a sales gimmick until last month

Honestly figured it was overpriced hype for customers who wanted to feel fancy. Then I used one on a 40 year old oak in Portland where the soil was compacted like concrete and watched the roots finally breathe after 3 minutes of work. Has anyone else seen a big turnaround with compacted urban trees?

I read somewhere that air spading basically fixes what happens when soil gets so packed that water can't even drain anymore, which is probably why that oak perked up so fast. Crazy how much difference a little decompaction can make in those urban hellscapes lol.

Yeah, isn't it wild how much those trees struggle when the soil turns to concrete basically? I feel bad for all the oaks stuck in those parking lot strips.
