Tried a new climbing hitch on a big white oak in Atlanta

Switched from my usual Blake's to a Knut for a removal last Tuesday, and the thing just kept creeping down the spar no matter how I dressed it. Ended up having to re-tie mid-climb, which was a real pain with all the gear. Anyone have a go-to hitch for smooth bark like that?

Wait, you had to re-tie while you were still up there? That sounds like a nightmare with all the saws and stuff. I'd be so mad if my hitch just gave up like that.

Honestly @claire_fisher41, I used to think that too until my own knot failed once.

Did you try a Michoacan on that oak? I had the same problem with a smooth bark maple a few months back and the Knut was just sliding all over the place. Switched to a Michoacan with four wraps around the climbing line and it grabbed way better, no creep at all even on the slick parts. Just gotta be real careful to dress it tight each time you set it.
