Watched a crew prune a 60 foot oak at the Erie arboretum and it changed how I make my cuts
I was at the arboretum in Erie last weekend for a free walk and a crew was working a big white oak near the entrance, about 60 feet tall. I stood and watched for 20 minutes and the climber made every cut back to the branch collar, no flush cuts, no stubs. I had been leaving little stubs at my own removals because I thought it was safer, and seeing those clean collars up close made me feel pretty dumb. Started going back over my last few jobs in my head and I know I have a couple spots to fix. Does anyone have a good way to show clients why a flush cut is bad without a 10 minute lecture?
