Downtown Atlanta's empty blocks are oddly peaceful
I drove through Atlanta last weekend for a show and parked near Five Points. Everyone talks about the traffic and crowds, but those blocks were dead quiet after 6 pm. A security guard told me foot traffic is down 40 percent since 2019, and honestly I liked having the streets to myself. Why do people keep pushing to fill every corner when the calm is the best part now? Has anyone else enjoyed a city feeling less packed?

Good lord, forty percent? That is a huge drop. I can't believe a security guard would just say that flat out like it wasn't a big deal. I've only been to downtown Atlanta a few times, but I remember it being a constant wall of people, especially near the hotels and the aquarium. It is wild to think it's that empty now. There's something sad about it even if it does sound peaceful, you know? You hate to see a city that alive just go quiet like that.
