My friend told me to just ask the question and I finally did

For years, I was the person who would sit in a meeting or a class and have a question but never raise my hand. I'd think it was dumb or that everyone else already knew the answer. My friend Sam, who's a teacher, kept telling me, 'Just ask it. I promise you, if you're confused, at least three other people are too.' I didn't believe him until last week in a workshop about data sorting. The presenter was going fast and used a term I didn't get. I remembered what Sam said, so I just blurted out, 'Can you explain what that means?' The presenter stopped, explained it clearly, and two people actually said 'Thank you' out loud after. It made the whole rest of the session make sense. I guess the 'ask anything' idea really works. Has anyone else had a moment where asking a simple question saved the day?

Sam actually said three people, not two though.

Yeah, I used to argue with Sam about this all the time. But honestly, seeing how this played out? I get it now.
