Realized I've been tying my work boots wrong for 15 years
I was out on a crawl space job last tuesday morning and kept having to retie my boots every hour. My helper just watched me for a minute and said 'you're doing a granny knot every time, that's why they slip.' I had no idea there was a difference between a granny knot and a reef knot. Now I lace them up once and they stay put all day. Anybody else discover they've been doing some basic skill wrong their whole life?

My dad showed me the reef knot when I was about twelve and it stuck, but I feel for you. That granny knot has tripped up more people than I can count, especially with stiff work boots. You might also try switching to a different lacing pattern, like skipping the top eyelet or using a heel lock method. It sounds fussy but it makes a real difference when you're squatting and climbing all day. Good on your helper for pointing it out.
