That $600 air purifier I bought for my grooming shop was a complete waste of money
It barely made a dent in the dander and hair floating around, and after three months the filter already smelled musty. Has anyone actually found a unit under $300 that handles pet dander in a small commercial space?

Two months in, did you try washing the pre-filter or was it one of those sealed units where you can't get to it? I've seen a few shops rely on a box fan with a furnace filter taped to it for way less than $300 and it pulls a surprising amount of hair out of the air if you change the filter every few weeks. The musty smell usually means trapped moisture, so maybe check if your space has a humidity issue that's killing performance.

Oh MAN, did you actually check for mold inside the unit when you opened it up? That trapped moisture smell can get REAL nasty if it's been sitting in there for weeks.
