Watering my plants at night saved them from wilting

I read a tip here about evening watering for potted plants. It really helped my herbs stay fresh through hot days (who knew timing mattered so much?).

Tried watering in the morning for years. My plants just baked in the sun. Switched to evenings last summer. Total game changer. Felt like a plant genius for about five minutes. Then remembered I killed a cactus in college.

My friend Jake's balcony garden was always fried by noon. He started watering around 8 PM and the leaves perked up in two days. Now he won't shut up about his 'magic evening routine'.

Remember reading about this in an old gardening book my mom had. It said watering at night lets the soil soak up water without the sun stealing it away. That's exactly what @the_blair was talking about with his friend Jake's magic evening routine. I tried it last summer on my tomato plants and they stopped drooping by lunchtime. Turns out the water has all night to get to the roots instead of drying up right away. Makes me wonder why more people don't do it... seems like common sense once you see it work.
