A client told me my emails were too salesy. I thought they were fine, but he said they felt like spam.
After he pointed out I led with features instead of results, I rewrote my cold outreach to start with a problem they actually told me they had. Open rates jumped from 12% to 38% on the next campaign. Anyone else get feedback that completely flipped their approach?

Thats a solid jump in open rates but I gotta call out one thing. 12% is actually pretty decent for cold outreach so your old emails probably werent as bad as you think. Most people start in the 2-5% range. The real win here is that you listened to feedback and made a change thats what actually matters. Problem first is almost always better than features first though, been doing that myself for a while now and it works way better.

My buddy Tom ran a cold email campaign for his landscaping business last year and started at 8% open rate. He switched to a subject line like "Your lawn is dying" and it jumped to 17%. @skyler_kim15 nailed it about problem first, people respond when they feel that pain.
