Chose the $40 email tool over the $400 platform, here's what 6 months taught me

Back in March I had to pick between a cheap email automation tool and a full enterprise platform for our 12-person SaaS team. Sales guy kept pushing the expensive one, saying we'd 'grow into it'. I went with the budget option to save cash and honestly it's been fine. We send about 4,000 emails a month, the templates are basic but they work, and our open rates actually went up 11%. The only pain point is no A/B testing built in, so I rig that manually. Anyone else downgrade tools and find it was good enough?

Wait, so the sales guy was wrong about you needing to "grow into" the fancy thing? That's like telling someone they need a Ferrari to run errands when a Honda works fine. Honestly, the manual A/B testing thing is the real kicker. I bet you've saved enough in six months to buy yourself a decent coffee machine with the difference, which is basically the same level of effort. The whole "grow into it" pitch is just code for "pay me more now so you feel stuck later." Your open rates going up is the perfect middle finger to that guy. Next time he calls, just tell him you're growing into your savings account instead.
