Got my first B2B retainer after a random coffee shop chat in Austin

I was sitting at this little place on South Congress last month, just working on my laptop. Guy next to me asked what I did, and I told him I help SaaS companies get more leads through LinkedIn outreach. Turns out he was the VP of Sales at a data analytics firm, and he was complaining about how their email sequences all sound like robots. I showed him a quick cold email rewrite right there on my phone, and he hired me on the spot for a 6 month retainer at $3k a month. It made me realize how much faster deals happen when you skip the online forms and just talk to people face to face. Anyone else land a client from a random in person conversation?

Oh wait isn't a 6 month retainer at 3k a month only 18k total? That seems kinda low for a VP of Sales at a data firm, especially since he hired you on the spot. Still a win obviously but I bet you could've gotten way more if you had asked.

Wait, did he actually guarantee the full 6 months in writing or was it month-to-month...?

South Congress is a good spot for that kind of thing, I've been to a few coffee shops around there. But I gotta say @skyler516, it's actually 18k for the full 6 months, not 3k a month total. 3k a month times 6 months comes to 18 grand. I mean it's still pretty good for a cold coffee shop pitch, but yeah maybe he could have asked for more depending on the scope.
