Hit our first $10k month and realized growth metrics are overrated
Everyone brags about hitting revenue milestones but our first $10k month came from a single client that was a nightmare to work with. We spent 4 months chasing vanity numbers and lost focus on our actual product roadmap. Has anyone else found that certain milestones do more harm than good?

Hire a contract killer next time and cut the toxic ones loose early. Better to have 3 good clients than one nightmare paying your bills.

That first $10k month thing hits different when it comes with a toxic client attached... I think the danger is when people treat revenue milestones like they're proof of concept when really they just mean you said yes to the wrong thing. Growth metrics are definitely overrated if they make you ignore whether your actual product is working or not. Your roadmap probably needed more attention than whatever metrics you were chasing, and that single client probably showed you that more clearly than any spreadsheet could. Sometimes a bad experience teaches you more about what not to do than the good ones ever will.
