Noticed something weird at a coworking space last month

I was at WeWork in Austin for a demo and realized their signup form had zero friction, but our B2B SaaS page asks for a phone number upfront. Anyone else seeing way better conversion rates with just an email field?

Read somewhere that HubSpot did a test and dropping a single field boosted conversions by 26% or something crazy like that. Phone number is a total dealbreaker before someone even knows what you do.

A phone number upfront? That's almost like asking for a date before you even say hello. It would shock me if that doesn't hurt signups way more than maybe any other field. You'd think people would want as little friction as possible to get started.
