PSA: Stop obsessing over LinkedIn engagement metrics

I wasted 6 months chasing likes and comments on posts, but then a $50k deal fell through because the lead told me my 'thought leadership' felt too generic - turns out a boring follow-up email I sent in 2 minutes closed more business than all my viral posts combined. Has anyone else found that direct outreach outperforms all the social media noise?

My cousin’s real estate agent closed a $3.2M listing last month because she sent a handwritten note every month for 18 months straight. No DMs, no LinkedIn posts, just snail mail with a local coffee shop gift card inside. The client said the other agents all texted or tagged them but she was the only one who remembered their anniversary. Makes you wonder if the best ROI is actually the stuff nobody talks about anymore.

18 months for a single listing doesn't sound like great ROI to me.

I did something similar with a commercial client. Sent them a local sports team schedule with a handwritten note each month for about a year. They ended up giving me their entire portfolio of six buildings because nobody else bothered to keep showing up like that. It takes time but the loyalty you build is hard to beat.
