That consultant who told me to stop chasing every lead was dead wrong

Last year a guy named Dave from some growth agency said I should ignore inbound leads under $500 monthly recurring. I tried it for 3 months and my pipeline dried up fast. Turned out those 45 small leads a month actually gave us good referrals and upsells later. Has anyone else had a consultant give advice that sounded smart but totally backfired?

Dave from that agency might have been right if your sales process was actually set up to scale. I had a similar thing where we followed that advice exactly but we cut out the bottom 80% of our leads and focused on the ones over $1k monthly. We lost 50 small accounts in the first month but our closing rate on the bigger ones jumped because my team had real time to nurture them. Those small leads you kept might just be the ones that were easy to close but cost you time on finding actual growth. I went from 15 small deals a month to 3 big ones that paid triple in total revenue after 6 months.

So @robin_foster1 your success story is giving me flashbacks to that Dave guy who promised my pipeline would turn into a gold mine. I guess the moral is consultants love blanket advice until your business gets a blanket of debt.
